Scott Thomas was nothing more than a series of contradictions to his school mates. He'd always been a larger, fit looking boy, and so he'd be picked first by playground team captains, only to let the team down through his lack of skill and coordination. The day he fell on a teammate, breaking the other boy's collar bone, was the day he vowed to never play sports again.
He was a smart boy, excelling in math and sciences but unable to make the necessary connections in subjects like literature or history. Even in the subjects he did well in, he would get so involved in his own thoughts that when called on by a teacher he would seem completely lost. His teachers were amazed that he was able to ace tests, but his classmates always assumed he wasn't very bright.
Socially he was just as awkward as in sports and in school. He'd carefully think through his responses before adding his comments, only to be laughed at because the rest of the conversation had moved on.
