Controller While traveling to the university, Laurie and her twin sister, Maria, was attacked by members of the gang known as the Lost. As the Lost took advantage of the twin sisters, the mutant abilities of Maria erupted, bathing everyone in intense radioactive heat. The Lost who survived fled, leaving the twin sisters and their fallen comrades behind.

Both Laurie and Maria were so badly hurt by the radiation that they were "recruited" into a new project by Dr. Bright of the Paragon City Government. Their bodies were fused with advanced robotic parts.
