Xiphios was the code name of a branch of a research project that developed technology inspired by aquatic animals.
One of the developed technologies was a combat suit based upon swordfish physiology, denoted by the use of a high tech sword and shield. Initial field tests of the suit was promising, so much so that the technicians decided the suit warranted further, more extreme field testings.
As a result, the suit has been loaned out to Longbow to use as they see fit.
