Star Wars: TOR Cancellation Issues
January 19, 2012 - 8:06pm
Didn't AOL pull this same horsepucky 10 years ago?
Maybe I'm just paranoid but something smells fishy. Why would posting on their forums "suddenly" be disabled without explanation?.
The Star Wars: The Old Republic Forums have posts from players having trouble cancelling their accounts for the MMORPG yesterday on the eve of when the one-month free accounts activated on the game's first day will be billed for their first paid month of service. Massively notes this thread with a workaround, and that customer service suggests customers with such issues contact them by phone. On the other hand, BioWare announces how not cancelling will earn players a "Founder" title, and the website now offers a video showing new features coming to the game in the future. In a separate bit of news related to the game, this post has word from the game's Live Community Coordinator that they have temporarily disabled posting for all community members on the Star Wars: The Old Republic Forums. No explanation for this is offered.

I am sure it is all just a coincidence. Now if you step over this way, I have a lovely bridge that I would like to sell to you.

The Massively.com article reference in your post has been updated and says that BioWare contacted them and that the issue has now been resolved. Hopefully it truly was just some technical glitch - because anything else would be pure crap on EA's part

I'm not surprised that folks would have issues posting - it seems like whenever there is an event of any kind around the game their website gets overwhelmed - not very encouraging for a software company.
I also though it was odd when I loaded the game that it required a credit card to start playing even though the first 30 days were included in the purchase price of the game.
On a positive note the game is awesome and I am having a blast playing with CT and a bunch of the folks that have joined our guild since the game kicked off - all great people.

Programming is a very diverse art. So being good at game development is not equivalent to being good at web development. That being said their web issues seem to mostly be infrastructure problems that could be solved by better optimization/throwing more hardware at it.
For the credit card stuff that's SOP for all MMOs. Every game I've played that included free time still required a valid credit card linked to the account upon activation. I get the feeling its partially a "it's always been done this way" and it's better to get yelled at for having issues cancelling than it is being yelled at for having an inaccessible game because someone forgot to add their credit card.
I'd like to reiterate that we're having a good time in TOR. Our first batch of players are starting to level cap so we'll be getting into the high level content soon and I expect a second wave of characters will get started in the next month.

CT - Thanks again for all the effort you put into the guild - awesome job! The group of folks who have jioned the guild recently are all great to play with and they make sure that they involve everyone in all the mayhem.
Looking forward to hitting 50 (this week hopefully)!

Are you all regularly running any events we could post or link to? I login now and then to the Exiles site to see what's going on, but perhaps I am not looking in the right areas to see events and such

Pretty much. We're getting about 10-12 players regularly on weeknights. When we have enough level capped for raids is probably when you'll see some more definitive events posted.

I am about to hit 50 on my Vanguard and I would echo what other folks have already said - we should have events scheduled once we have enough people at level cap. The group that we have is really great about helping the rest of the guild through some of the content that is a little more difficult.
I was on the final boss fight of the trooper storyline last night and when I finished (after 2-3 deaths) I ralized that 3 Exiles were winging their way toward my location to help out (without being asked). I managed the boss fight on my own, but I was very impressed with their willingness to drop what they were doing to give me a hand - great group of peeps!
