Going Rogue / Issue 18 Now Live!
August 16, 2010 - 2:39pm
Through the extended maintenance today (August 16th), access to Issue 18: Shades of Gray and City of Heroes: Going Rogue as well as the merged Hero and Villain Market have now been enabled on all live servers! This was done to facilitate the official launch of City of Heroes: Going Rogue tomorrow, on Tuesday, August 17 2010, and make sure it is smooth and successful. City of Heroes: Going Rogue represents some of the most exciting and innovative work ever to come from Paragon Studios and the City of Heroes team and we know you won’t be disappointed!
As a result of this “soft launch”, Going Rogue prepurchase customers will be able to experience City of Heroes: Going Rogue as of today. The universe of Praetoria is truly amazing, and you probably can't wait to log in and get started. Maybe you will want to take your existing Heroes and Villains down new and unexplored moral pathways, or perhaps you will decide that there is no deviating from your initial path and will want to create a brand new Praetorian character. The choice is yours! For those of you who pre-ordered or have yet to purchase City of Heroes: Going Rogue you will still be able to experience City of Heroes: Going Rogue tomorrow on launch day.
We hope all of you enjoy Issue 18: Shades of Gray as you join us in our most exciting adventure yet!

Oops! Slight correction, I ended up with the Martial Arts pack and not the Mutant one. Still managed to get the two best North American codes that were given out.
Thanks!

A random note - if you're like me, I was excited to see the new Shiny Login UI of Going Rogue when I launched the game. Sadly, this was not the case - it launched with the City of Villains Login UI screens instead (the media I had originally installed the game from). If you right click on your City of Heroes shortcut that you launch the game from, and then choose properties, you can add this simple little command switch to chose launch the game with your UI of choice:
- Hero Login Skin/UI: "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\cohupdater.exe" -uiskin 0
- Villain Login Skin/UI: "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\cohupdater.exe" -uiskin 1
- Going Rogue Login Skin/UI: ""C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\cohupdater.exe" -uiskin 2

Well, first day of Going Rogue, and I had a blast. It's also 5 AM (on the dot), so if I'm a bit incoherent, forgive me.
As was expected, the servers were flooded with the dreck of society. Stupid characters with stupid names, non-existent designs and poor manners proweld the streets. I met the eye-rollingly bad "Kin you dig it," whose costume was boring and who was a Kinectics Scrapper, unsurprisingly. Marq spotted a cow girl (in the literal sense) called "Got milk?" (with the question mark), which reminded me that I needed to make a cow girl of my own at some point, which I added to the list right below the reptile girl I've been planning.
I managed to spot virtually everyone I knew online at one time or another and had a few fun chats, mostly about people being assholes and preaching doom because the Brute damage cap was lowered and their Fury mechanic altered. Considering I was consistently keeping up higher fury for lower effort on my newbie Brute, I can safely say that these people can go stick their head in a sheep for all I care. Brutes play better now, and from what I hear, they're more balanced, too.
Haven't seen the patch notes yet, what with it being 5 AM and all, but I hazard I know about most of them. Will read through them regardless. There's bound to be something I missed or forgot.
Going Rogue's not for sale yet, outisde of the prepurchase that some didn't get, which gives those of us who did an unannounced, unintentional head start, which I appreciate. It's basically meaningless, but it gave me an excuse to put off work for a few days, so yippe for me. Unfortunately, that also means I can't play around with the Alpha and Omega stuff, since those aren't part of the prepurchase, but I expect that to be out tomorrow, and Brutticus, my new Brute (upon reflection, I'm glad I made her a Brute and not a Scrapper with that name) doesn't really have a use for any of that stuff, so I can wait. 13, my next character, probably won't need them, either, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
So far, so good. I'm having fun again, and I don't have to work my butt off its hinge to do so, which is a major win in my eyes. Great.

Quick question: How do our current SG's work with Praetoria? Can we join a SG right away or do we have to wait until we leave for Paragon/Rogue's Isles?

And I'm guessing we loose our membership if we switch cities....

There do not seem to be any SG style organizations for us to create/join in Praetoria. I haven't looked into it, but I'd venture to say our choice as a loyalist or resistance member kind of gives us that SG style base/feel, until we reach 20, and are then "forced" to choose a side, at which point we can join our respective SGs/VGs.

You cannot form or join SGs as a Praetorian. When you think about it, there's only onesupergroup in the world and you're forced to join it at the start. Once you make it to Primal Earth you can join as normal.
Switching sides presents other problems. To over-simplify: When you switch you retain your membership but you appear as a sort of MIA. You can't use any of the base facilities. If you return to your original alignment you regain full membership.

i saw in the patch note
----------------
When a Supergroup leader tries to switch sides, a popup appears telling them the consequences of the alignment shift, which is that they will be removed from their leader rank if they switch their alignment to the opposing side.
If they do switch alignment all the way to polar opposite of the SG, leadership will pass to the next highest ranking/senior member of the SG.
----------------
Super Groups
- Players remain in their Super Group if they change alignments to the opposing side.
Hero and Vigilante are considered blue-side, and Villain and Rogue are considered red-side for this purpose, no matter where they happen to be.
- Players that are in a Super Group of the opposing side are considered to have “gone dark”.
Dark members aren’t allowed to access their Super Group base.
Dark members aren’t given most Super Group permissions.
Dark members are allowed to pay base rent and to talk in Coalition chat.
- If the Super Group leader goes dark, the leader will then be demoted from their rank.
A different non-dark member will be automatically promoted to the leadership position.
The Super Group leader will be notified with a pop-up if they attempt to complete a Morality mission that would change their alignment such that they would go dark. The leader must confirm that they are fine with going dark and getting demoted before being allowed to switch to the new alignment.
If they do switch alignment all the way to polar opposite of the SG, leadership will pass to the next highest ranking/senior member of the SG.
