Hmm globals have been working for me, I have had issues logging into the game.
Try launching the updater, then verify all files. It takes about ten minutes, might clear it up, does for the log in issue.

This happened to me last night too. My wife was actually already playing, so I knew the servers weren't down. I tried several times. Mostly, I couldn't log on at all, but a couple of times, I did log on and it showed every server being down. Weird, weird stuff.

Usually when this happens I click Alt+F4 a couple of times. That usually clears things up for me.
