A Paragon of Customization - New Dev Digest
June 11, 2009 - 5:39am
Another dev digest has popped up, focusing on customization and I15. Unfortunately it's pretty bland and doesn't yield anything terribly new or interesting - too bad BaB's got stuck writing it. It does have pics of the new costume sets and faces if you haven't seen them yet.

Now, that all being said...focus on the last paragraph.
Wonder what he could be alluding to? Maybe it's power customization?
(Oh and by the way, the Vanguard costume change emote is by far the most awesome of them all. But don't take my word for it.)

While all of these added customization options are part of the immediate content going into Issue 15, it's really only a sampling of a much larger picture - as hinted by the recent announcement of the Going Rogue expansion. Our players can expect to hear some very exciting news about the new, much larger systems we've been working on to support and expand the customization aspect of City of Heroes within the next few months.

Even if we can just change the color of our blasts would be awesomesauce in a can.

I'm sure that someone from Cryptic has been in the 'alleged' Champions Beta. Even if they haven't, they've at least seen the original Champions add that were clearly aimed at CoH forum readers. CoH has to be able to compete, and launching Going Rogue about a month or so after Champions is released is probably the ideal way to win customers back after they've tried Champions... if Going Rogue really is all that.
It really does sound like some great things are coming down the pipe. After seeing I15, I really do hope they have a decent I16 between now and Going Rogue, though.

But yeah, power customization would be cool. I think it's going to happen, but mostly just a matter of when at this point.
That would rock. Blue Lamprey needs blue lightning armor, not red!

I think the CoX crew is well aware of the key features that makes Champions Online "stand out", or make themselves appear as a CoX version 2. The Dev crew seems to realize all too well that this 5-year old game needs some new life, as many players are jumping ship (at least temporarily) to try out new things while we all await something incredible for the game. I feel I-15 will be a bit Lackluster (at least on the surface), and that Going Rogue will overshadow I-16. Ideally, we'll get Going Rogue around the CoV anniversary (Halloween) and probably see I-16 drop in around the Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays to help those who might not have picked up the Going Rogue Expansion.

What if I16 is basically Going Rogue? It's suspiciously looking to be that way...
I think you're right, but with I14 supposed to have been I13, and I15 being essentially more improvements to I14, I was hoping for a full issue before Going Rogue. Especially with all the new staff and resources they've been talking about for the last year.

I hope that doesn't mean that the biggest 'class' change in GoRo will be a couple of powersets.
I look forward to redeeming my Widow, though. I'll have to think about which of my heroes is the most likely to turn.....
