Issue 15 Dominator Changes
June 9, 2009 - 5:54pm
Not sure who's heard about this, but depending on how you feel it just might be Christmas in July...but a month early.
For those not in the know, Doms are getting a bit of a change. Basically they're going to become the first AT with two primary roles - Control and Damage. This is a bit different than how they exist with their primary/secondary being control/damage respectively.
The slated changes in greater detail can be found at this thread.
But to give you a tidbit -
Dominator Archetype Revamp
* Removed the damage bonus granted from Domination and increased Melee Damage Modifier from .75 to 1.05 and Ranged Damage Modifier from .65 to .95. This will allow the Dominator to deal greatly improved damage regardless if they are in Domination mode or not.
As for as other TL;DR stuff - most of the assault sets got a damage boost, but Psi Shockwave was rebalanced and is very similar to the Blaster version found in Psychic Manipulation. Basically lower damage, longer recharge, ect.
So, any thoughts?
Personally I'm going to try out these changes on my various Dominators, but I'm enthusiastic about it.

The changes sound like they could be a good move for Dominators, and might encourage me to make one

I've always liked the idea behind Dominators, but the inf required to get perma-dom and a therefore truly awesome and effective Dominator kept me from getting too involved with them. With psi shockwave taking a hit, I think we may actually see some other secondaries getting chosen. I know I'll be looking at others for some AoE carnage.

I like my Ice/Ice now, so I15 improvements are really a great bonus. I don't play villains that often, though.

The changes seemed good enough in the quick spins around the block I gave them. Then again, I already have two L50s with a third closing in on there, so it seems I needed little encouragement in the first place.

Just came across this on the Official boards. Can someone who's tested the Doms comment on this?

Hmmm... Maybe the endurance issues and attack chain are more pronounced at lower levels.
Thanks for the input, Razor. Personally, I like the damage and can slot for a little end reduction if necessary.

What Razor said. An inability to form a consistent attack chain at L5 is, well, life at L5.

I shall investigate this further!!!!! I just finished my perma-dom pvp build, and now they changed the rules. It only took me 18+ months.

Dominators certainly needed a boost, though, and Frosty the Clown will be a happier harlequin.
