Not sure who's heard about this, but depending on how you feel it just might be Christmas in July...but a month early.

For those not in the know, Doms are getting a bit of a change. Basically they're going to become the first AT with two primary roles - Control and Damage. This is a bit different than how they exist with their primary/secondary being control/damage respectively.

The slated changes in greater detail can be found at this thread.

But to give you a tidbit -

Dominator Archetype Revamp

* Removed the damage bonus granted from Domination and increased Melee Damage Modifier from .75 to 1.05 and Ranged Damage Modifier from .65 to .95. This will allow the Dominator to deal greatly improved damage regardless if they are in Domination mode or not.

As for as other TL;DR stuff - most of the assault sets got a damage boost, but Psi Shockwave was rebalanced and is very similar to the Blaster version found in Psychic Manipulation. Basically lower damage, longer recharge, ect.

So, any thoughts?

Personally I'm going to try out these changes on my various Dominators, but I'm enthusiastic about it.

I'm curious where this leaves the Corruptor, as far as team role is concerned. They're certainly not villain side defenders, but it doesn't sound like they compete with Dom's for damage either.

Dominators certainly needed a boost, though, and Frosty the Clown will be a happier harlequin.

It leaves Corruptors in the same place they've always been. This shouldn't really change the teaming experience for Corruptors since they're essentially the major source of buffs and debuffs for teams. Also, Corruptors do have Scourge and the nice damage boost it provides.

The changes sound like they could be a good move for Dominators, and might encourage me to make one smile

I've always liked the idea behind Dominators, but the inf required to get perma-dom and a therefore truly awesome and effective Dominator kept me from getting too involved with them. With psi shockwave taking a hit, I think we may actually see some other secondaries getting chosen. I know I'll be looking at others for some AoE carnage.

I like my Ice/Ice now, so I15 improvements are really a great bonus. I don't play villains that often, though.

The changes seemed good enough in the quick spins around the block I gave them. Then again, I already have two L50s with a third closing in on there, so it seems I needed little encouragement in the first place. smile

Just came across this on the Official boards. Can someone who's tested the Doms comment on this?

I have only been able to run a mission with a few of my doms -

35 Grav/Elec - Probably my weakest Dom on live, the damage output isn't there and he can go through end pretty quickly. On test I ran a quick CoT mission at base difficulty - the increase in damage was definitely more noticeable and I really didn't notice any end problems. I definitely had no problems with sitting idle, a power was always up to use.

35 Earth/Fire - Damage was definitely increased as I tore through a newspaper mission full of +2 Freaks. On live a huge chunk of my damage came from the pet, but that wasn't nearly the case on test. End was a bit of an issue, but I attribute that more to not really slotting for end reduction.

50 Ice/Ice - On live this guy does decent damage, but is a horrible end hog. On test I ran a mission from the patron arc that featured Ice Mistral and was full of Mu, everything was +1. I definitely didn't have any endurance issues at all and I was definitely going through the spawns fast. I wasn't prepared for Ice Mistral and did that on purpose to see how I'd do. I managed to get two Lucks which I popped a bit too early before fighting her and had to use Hibernate to survive Ice Mistrals rains. After that I was able to get her down to about half HP in maybe 30 seconds, and that's when I bit it.

So tl;dr version - I am quite happy with the changes. I need to test out my 50 Plant/Thorn and 46 Fire/Psi, but I think that I'll find then to be similar to my previous experiences and so I look forward to that.

Hmmm... Maybe the endurance issues and attack chain are more pronounced at lower levels.
Thanks for the input, Razor. Personally, I like the damage and can slot for a little end reduction if necessary.

I think it's fair to say that almost everything has endurance issues at lower levels. But looking at the power changes, in most cases where endurance costs were increased it was around 2-4, which in the grand scheme of things isn't that big and easily offset by endurance reduction slotting.

So I don't really see it as being that big of a deal.

What Razor said. An inability to form a consistent attack chain at L5 is, well, life at L5. smile

I shall investigate this further!!!!! I just finished my perma-dom pvp build, and now they changed the rules. It only took me 18+ months.
