This is exactly what I was expecting the count down timer to be. I don't play any other MMOs, but as a long time Star Trek fan I have to say this has me quite intrigued.
I've been following the game for a while. And though I was disappointed that Perpetual dropped the ball, I'm very happy that Cryptic was the one to pick it up. I know a lot of people worry about Jack but I'm hopeful that Crytpic has enough die-hard Trekkies (and Trekkers) to keep him in his place. It'll be interesting to see how this game develops and whether it's more like EVE, SWG (JtLS) or CoX. They're using the same "Cryptic Engine" for this game and they're developing it for console also.
I'm much more interested in this project than CoX 2.0... er I mean Champions online.
I do trust Cryptic to do a good job as long as Jack's 'vision' is reasonable. He's pretty adamant about that kind of thing, but now will have Paramount breathing down his neck as well.
At least we know the tech is fairly solid. There shouldn't be any Funcom style problems.
It's great to see Drupal being used by companies and organizations such as Cryptic. And you all thought I was crazy when I chose this platform for our site
Now if only I had the graphical prowess to match the new Champions Online and Star Trek Online designers
Emmert's talk consists of 20-25 minutes of game discussion, the trailer and the rest of the time is filled with Nimoy's introduction and a Q&A session at the end. Very, very informational.
Everyone gets their own ship. But you don't start at Captain rank.
Federation and Klingons aren't getting along much anymore.
PvP will be included.
Ship crew will be NPC pets a la Mastermind pets.
Galactic economy. Competition for resources.
Choose a race or create your own.
Customize ships and characters.
Setting is 30 years after Nemesis (2409).
They will be releasing timelines in the months prior to release.
Fleets (guilds) can pool resources to create starbases and shipyards and equipment.
Like I said it's loaded with information. Everyone somewhat interested in this game should watch it. (40 minutes long though).
