Flash-Fire, in a former life, worked as a scientist in a Crey lab that was studying insect genetics and the possibilities of splicing insect genes into humans to give humans insect like attributes.
However, the lab was caught in a massive explosion during the Rikti invasion. Most people in the lab at the time were killed or severely injured. One of the scientists was even thought to be completely incinerated in the explosion as his remains were never found.
What had actually happened was the scientist had been exposed to high levels of radiation as well as various chemicals and malfunctioning equipment in the explosion rocking the lab. This series of events caused the scientist to mutate and gain the attributes of various insects in the lab, turning him into the being, Flash-Fire.
